The Challenge
Saudi Arabia's National Events Center needed a digital platform to streamline how event organizers — across entertainment, sports, cultural, and exhibition sectors — apply for and receive the permits required to legally host public events. The process involved coordination across multiple legislative, regulatory, and security authorities, historically a slow and fragmented process, with a target of cutting permit turnaround to as little as 72 hours without compromising regulatory compliance or security review requirements.
Our Approach
Codiantech was engaged for the full product lifecycle over a 1.5-year engagement, with a 12-developer team covering design, development, and operations:
- Design: Built a complete Figma design system for the applicant-facing portal and the multi-stakeholder review workflow, prioritizing clarity for non-technical event organizers navigating a government approval process.
- Development: Built the platform on Ruby on Rails and Node.js, with MySQL as the primary data layer, handling multi-role access across applicants, reviewing authorities, and administrators, plus form-driven permit applications with status tracking through each regulatory checkpoint.
- DevOps: Deployed and managed the platform on Saudi Arabia's government cloud infrastructure, meeting the data residency, security, and compliance requirements expected of a government-facing system handling sensitive applicant and regulatory data.
